DAVIS CEMETERY

Directions to DAVIS CEMETERY, WAYNE CO., MS. : From Buckatunna , take the old hwy 45 back toward Winchester. Turn left on the old Chicora/Clara Rd.: Go approximately ¼ mile where you will cross the Chickasawhay River (small bridge). Immediately at the foot of the bridge, turn right onto Sandbed Chicora Rd. Bear right at the “Y” intersection of Chicora Baptist Church Street. Bear right again at McCarty Rd. (You will still be on Sandbed Chicora Rd.) Davis Cemetery is set back in a wooded area on the left. There is a small sign at the driveway entrance.

The following is to be considered a partial listing of the gravesites in the Davis Cemetery, because several local residents have said it was at one time a CSA burial site, and many of those original graves were left as lost or unmarked by time. Also, in trying to read some of the headstones, they are so damaged as to be unreadable now. (There were about 6 that appeared to be infant graves from long ago.)

The cemetery was researched in Oct. 2003, by Cindy Sullivan.
